twisted

Last year, I began to notice the books written by Laurie Halse Anderson.  Wondering in Eslite on the third floor, I first saw the book Wintergirls, then, Chains, Twisted, Catalyst, and finally Speak. I picked Twisted as the first to talk about.

Last year, in Taipie, school bullies had been an issue for a while. People kept talking about bullies. It seemed that bullies are monsters suddenly invading our lives. Actually, bullies exist everywhere. They may be students at school, or rude people on the streets, or even some other people under different disguises.

In the book Twisted, Tyler Miller is a person who used to be bullied by a boy becasue he was shorter than tbe bullies. Of course he hated to go to school where promised no safety neither friends. When he got into his high school life, life began to change. He was first busted for doing graffiti on the school. Then he grows. Physically, he is not a boy shorter than others, but a young man taller than the bullies who used to bully him.

Following Tyler's steps to find his real identity and strength, I find Anderson, the writer is a great story teller. The dialogues are very realistic, and the paces are very tense. Only when Tyler finds the way to cope with his life do I find the peace in my mind.

P.S. In the real world, bullies are around. Whether kids or adults, we have learn to face them. If we just point at the bullies, they won't walk away. Even we blame teachers or the education system, problems are still there. Why don't we encourage the victims or show them ways to stand up on their feet!
